Sometimes, we have a hard time accepting
people
who are “different” than we are. But they aren’t
really any different – it’s just that their
challenge is more visible than ours might be.
SarahBear™
is a therapeutic friend who helps us
|
|
understand that people with physical
challenges are as
loveable and acceptable as everyone else. SarahBear™
waits patiently, listens intently, and loves
unconditionally.

Each one of us is unique and lovable.
Celebrate your difference!

Over the years,
I have become friends with a few “challenged”
athletes. Their stories, their attitudes, and their
determination impressed me. While volunteering at
the
Challenged
Athletes Foundation, I got to know Sarah
Reinertsen, triathlete, motivational speaker and
founder of
AlwaysTri.net. I wondered how life might be
different for people like Sarah – the stares, the
comments, the real challenges.
|
|
To
most, challenged people are perceived as
incomplete and somehow less acceptable to
those of us whose challenges are not as
obvious. I began to think... How can I help
others accept challenged people? And, is
there something that can increase their self
confidence?

Then it came to
mind... the purest symbol of love and acceptance –
the teddy bear. The purpose was to show that it’s OK
to be different. We all are in some way. Because it
isn’t about our physical, mental or emotional
capacity, it’s about love and acceptance – of others
as well as ourselves.
